SONS OF NORWAY, GRIEG
LODGE IN A NUTSHELL
Portland-based Sons of Norway Grieg Lodge was founded in 1910 and built
its home, Norse Hall in 1928. As an all-volunteer, non-profit fraternal
organization with 620 members, Grieg Lodge is dedicated to cultural, educational
and humanitarian pursuits connected with Norwegian and Scandinavian heritage,
and is active in the community in many ways. The Lodge currently supports
yearly college scholarships, financial aid and tuition grants for youth
summer camps and local schools, cancer patient aid, and annual financial
contributions to a variety of charitable groups.
Ongoing cultural activities
include a traditional dance program that has operated since 1934, Norwegian
craft and language classes, Scandinavian film, literature and history
clubs, and a recently restored library which houses one of the largest
collections of Norwegian-language books in the Northwest. Grieg Lodge
is the Portland chapter of International Sons of Norway, which was founded
in 1895 and has 63,000 members worldwide. www.sofn.com
